I had a nice long report written up but backed out of the page without saving. Tournament report level = NEWB
Gil built me the deck Thursday night. I got a few hours of playtesting in almost exclusively against Jeskai combo. I hate going to tournaments unprepaired but the deck fits my playstyle. I almost backed out a few times but ended up going. The TO Mike Stromley is a great guy and supports our events so I was glad to get a chance to support one of his events. Nothing could stop us once we left. Not missing an exit, not getting pulled over, and not getting lost in a berry patch!
Ill post the decklist later. I ran a transformational sideboard changing from tempo to control/burn siding out all my creatures. There where a few match ups I thought about staying tempo post sideboard but the plan hadn't failed me so I kept with it. I think on the play against mirror type decks it may be ok to stay tempo based.
R1
Played against Sidisi Whip.
Game 1 I rode Mantis Rider to victory
Game 2 I sided out all my creatures for board wipes and counter spells. He sided in more removal which ended up being blanked.
1-0
R2
against G/R Monsters
G1 opponent received a deck reg loss
G2. Opponent misses fourth land drop and plays a scry land tapped on turn five as I Ride a Mantis to victory.
I then have to listen to my opponent complain about how he was mana srewed and how awesome his hand was. PRO-TIP: IF YOUR HAND DOESN'T HAVE MANA AND YOU DON'T LIKE THE CARDS YOU SEE YOUR DECK SUCKS! AKA COOL STORY BRO! He had revealed a stormbreath off of courser of kruphix, and I had a stoke the flames with it's name on it. I don't think the match would have went much different even if he had the turn four land.
TLDR: Tempo = less clunky hands, more forgiving mulls. Ramp style decks, not so much.
2-0
R3
Jeskai tokens
G1 win the race
G2 opponent mulls to 5 on the play. I play extremely aggressive possibly making a misplay not killing his Mantis rider with sarkhan. I wanted to keep the pressure on while I had card advantage but later in the game I was unable to kill the Rider with Jeskai charms and magma jets, which almost came back to bite me. It ended up working I got in for four more points of damage and effectively blanked some damage as he wasted a turn dealing with Sarkhan. I think if given the chance again I would kill the rider.
R4 and R5
Round 4 we decide we will double draw in. Round 5 my opponent almost decides he wants to play before he realizes if one of loses at that point we are not guaranteed to make the cut. I actually wanted to play R4 for better seeding but didn't want to be a dick. I would rather have possibly lost R4 and have had to play R5 than draw R4 and have to play R5 because the reward of winning R4 was much higher. Going into future tournaments I don't know if I will double draw again since any agreement in R4 is not officially binding and your opponent can just change his mind.

Rematch vs whip
same thing won game 1 sided out all my creatures and blanked his removal
The transformational sideboard really shown here because my opponent sided in removal not realizing I was siding out my creatures

Jeskai Tokens
I can't remember if this match went two or three games. I was a little worried about being on the draw in a match that I really wanted to be on the play and somewhat regretted the double draw in.
won a close game at one life made a suboptimal play being too aggressive with dig through time giving my opponent a chance to dig for a burn spell. He blanked I win.

Jeskai Tokens
win game one. I believe this was the match where I had sarkhan, negate, dissolve, and seven land with one being tapped. I passed the turn with the plan of casting Sarkhan with negate mana up. On my opponents turn I forgot my line of play and negated a spell while I had the chance and kept the catchall dissolve meaning I had to wait extra turns to cast Sarkhan.
lost game 2
. I had anger of the gods and was being beaten down by two raise the alarm tokens. I was trying to sandbag but my opponent correctly did not over extend. I took a little too much damage before letting my anger go and lost.
Mull to 6 on the play, opponent keeps a greedy hand and gets punished. I win.
